In advance of forthcoming Regional Guidance on 'Children who go Missing' our local Partnership guidance on 'Children who go Missing' in Wolverhampton is given below. This should be read in conjunction with your own agency's pathways.

‘Children running away and going missing from home, care or view' is a safeguarding issue. The DfE published statutory guidance in January 2014 which primarily addressed the responsibilities on Local Authorities to children who run away or go missing from home care.

DEFINITION

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) recently reviewed the definition of Missing Children as follows:

‘Anyone whose whereabouts cannot be established will be considered as missing until located, and their well-being (or otherwise) confirmed.’

The term Violence Against Women and Girls covers 5 specific violent crimes for which the vast majority of victims are female. These 5 crimes are:

• Domestic violence
• Female genital mutilation
• Forced marriage
• Honour based violence
• Sexual violence

However, it cannot be over-emphasised that both locally and nationally all organisations and services recognise that there are female and male victims and perpetrators, and that support is available for women, men, girls and boys.

Understanding Hoarding

Hoarding is the persistent difficulty in discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of their actual value.

Commonly hoarded items can include newspapers, magazines, paper and plastic bags, photographs, household supplies, food and clothing.

Such behaviour can often have harmful effects – emotional, physical, social, financial and even legal – for a hoarder, their family, friends and those who may care for them in a professional capacity.
