Domestic Abuse and the Impact on Adults and Families

 Multiple places per prganisation will not be offered in order to ensure a good multi agency mix of delegates

Target Audience:

All who are in contact with children and young people, families and adults with care and supprt needs where domestic abuse is known or suspected.

NB: Before attending this course, it is recommended that you have some basic knowledge relating to this subject matter.

Aims:

To increase the awareness of domestic abuse and develop an understanding of the nature and scale of domestic abuse in the black country, this will include impact of domestic abuse on parenting and children and young people's welfare.

This course recognizes the needs of abused parents and their children as different and equally valid. However, course content will reflect the principles of inter-agency child protection training and facilitators will emphasize the welfare of the child as paramount in all cases.

Objectives:

Define domestic abuse in the broadest sense

Dismantle some of the myths associated with domestic abuse

Identify the impact of domestic abuse on parenting

Link the effects of domestic abuse on a child's welfare and development

Understanding their role, in conjunction with that of professionals from partner agencies, in meeting the needs of families affected by domestic abuse

Use relevant knowledge in effective assessment, planning and intervention

Links between domestic abuse, substance and alcohol misuse

Know how to and who to contact if there are concerns about the safety and well-being of a child/young person affected by domestic abuse.
