Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board  and Wolverhampton Safeguarding Adults Board has a joint Learning and Development committee which is responsible for:

producing and monitoring the impact of the WSCB / WSAB Learning and Improvement Framework

assuring the Boards that each organisation or sector delivers relevant 'single agency' training to its staff (employees and volunteers) proportionate to the role they have in meeting the needs of children, young people and their families

making provision for and overseeing a relevant programme of high quality multi-agency training in response to identified need for all WSCB/WSAB partner agencies / sectors that makes a difference to the safety of children and young people in the city.

Joint LDC Training Strategy

The multi-agency training provided needs to give staff across all partner organisations a shared understanding of safeguarding; understand their own and each others' roles and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding; and a firm foundation for effective, joint working to keep children , young people and adult safe from abuse and neglect and promote their wellbeing. 


Basic Safeguarding Awareness e-learning - WSCB/WSAB partners (public sector and voluntary sector organisations based in the city and / or deliverng services or support to Wolverhampton residents) that don't have access to their own e-learning platforms can access the City of Wolverhampton Council's e-learning portal FREE OF CHARGE. Private sector organisations, and organisations not based in the city, or not providing services or support to Wolverhampton residents, will have to pay to access WSCB's multi-agency e-learning programme. This Basic Awareness e-learning is suitable for all staff whether or not their job is related to work with children and young people, or adults with care and support needs.

There are two modules within the Basic Safeguarding Awareness e-learning suite:

  • Safeguarding Children e-learning module
  • Safeguarding Adults e-learning module

Employees and volunteers will need to complete both modules in order to be able to download a certificate to show they have completed the training.

Managers need to request licences for employees or volunteers (one per person - each person must have their own unique email address).

The licence also allows access to a range of other safeguarding related courses such as Prevent, Safeguarding Children with Disabilities, Child Sexual Exploiation, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Domestic Violence. Just search 'Safeguarding' in the A-Z of courses (please note some courses are just for Social Workers).


Single Agency Training  - WSCB/WSAB partner organisations are responsible for ensuring all relevant staff receive Introduction to Safeguarding Training. Please contact your manager if you have not received introductory safeguarding training within your own agency.

Multi Agency Training  -  There are a range of courses provided by the Wolverhampton Safeguarding Childrens Board/Wolverhampton Safeguarding Adults Board. These are provided FREE OF CHARGE to WSCB/WSAB partners (public sector and voluntary sector organisations based in and / or delivering services in Wolverhampton). Private sector organisations, and organisations not based in the city, or not providing services or support to Wolverhampton residents, will have to pay  i.e. public sector and voluntary sector organisations based in and / or delivering services in Wolverhampton, there is no charge for attending courses. For private sector organisations, and organisations not based in the city, or not providing services or support to Wolverhampton residents, there will be a £50 non-refundable charge per attendee for eachWSCB multi-agency course (see terms and conditions on training booking).

WSCB is also working in partnership with 3 other Black Country LSCB's (Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall) to offer 8 places per area on selected courses, this gives greater flexibilty for attendance on both dates and venue. If you work with vulnerable young adults post 16 there maybe other WSCB course suitable to your role. We will shortly be adding the WSAB training courses to the website

Attending training is an essential part of continuing development in your role in safeguarding children, young people and adults. The safeguarding boards value the participation of everyone in a range of training opportunities and the contribution this makes to multi-agency working. In order to get the most out of a training event we ask that you consider your own responsibilities with regard to attending and assisting in evaluating the training.
