#spotthesigns - youth suicide prevention resources from Papyrus

PAPYRUS is the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. They have a new campaign film which shows that we can all make a difference to a young person having thoughts of suicide.

The film shows reactions from members of the public when they see young people wearing large signs such as: 'Death is my only option', 'I want to end it all', 'I'm going to end my life', and 'Suicide is the only answer'. During a total of 16 hours filming in two busy shopping areas, just 42 people stopped to help the young people or to offer support. Many said they didn't know what to do or to say.

PAPYRUS strongly believe that talking openly about suicide saves lives and their message, through this film, is that no-one person or organisation can do this alone. People need to look out for their loved ones and if they are concerned that someone close to them is having thoughts of suicide, ask them directly.

Christmas and the New Year are difficult times of the year for many and as lots of families may have spent time together over the festive period, it may be a time that we notice subtle changes in behaviours that are of concern. Accompanying the film, are a range of resources that encourage everyone to look out for signs and give advice on how to start that difficult conversation.

Papyrus launched the film through social media on 20th December but the message is equally relevant now and throughout the year.
