Wolverhampton's Keeping Children Safe in Education conference 2016
We held a great event for schools last week that helps keep schools and other education providers up to date with their safeguarding responsibilities. Head teachers and/or their safeguarding leads representatives had useful catch up sessions on subjects as varied as home-schooling, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, radicalisation and anti-bullying. We had great feedback to tell us that teachers felt-better informed and found the event valuable. We have run this conference for the past two years and I am sure we shall do it again in 2017. Thanks to all who attended and who contributed.
Multi-agency focus group for front-line staff
It was also a useful week for meeting front line staff and learn of the ways they are increasingly working in partnership to protect children. This gives me a front-line perspective of the realities of work at the front-line. Although there are always improvements to make I was reassured that there are discernible improvements in practice partly due to a greater emphasis on physically working form the same building professionals told me that new systems of working together and sharing information were helpful and benefiting children. Also there has been greater contribution to child protection meetings in recent times from mental health professionals and from GPs. You can never be complacent but I think we are moving in the right direction.
