Wolverhampton GPs are making more safeguarding children referrals. It may sound strange, but this is good news.

Identifying concerns at an early stage is the best way to prevent more serious safeguarding issues later.

GPs are often the first to spot concerns about children and families and for some time the Safeguarding Board has felt that we were not getting enough referrals as we thought we should.

With the help of NHS partners, work has been done to further raise awareness of GPs around spotting abuse and neglect, and responding approriately to different levels of concern. We believe that this has contributed to the rise in referrals from GPs and has led to more children being kept safe from abuse and neglect.

So thank you to the GPs of Wolverhampton. Its great to think that by working better together we are making a difference in protecting children.
